 On the Home Front

In the United States, Mary Kay Inc. is committed to changing the lives of women and children specifically by helping to end and prevent domestic violence:
  • Through the support of Mary Kay Inc., The Mary Kay FoundationSM has awarded more than $28 million to domestic violence prevention programs and women's shelters in all 50 states and over $15 million to cancer researchers and related causes across the country.

  • The Mary Kay FoundationSM sponsored two groundbreaking PBS documentaries surrounding the issue of domestic violence – "Breaking the Silence: Journeys of Hope" in the fall of 2001, and in 2005, "Breaking the Silence: Children's Stories."

  • One in three teens is the victim of physical, sexual, verbal or emotional abuse in a dating relationship. Mary Kay Inc. is partnering with nonprofit organization Break the Cycle to sponsor the interactive Ending Violence DVD. This preventive education curriculum teaches teens about healthy relationships. The partnership continues at www.enddatingviolence.com,
an online petition aimed at encouraging lawmakers to help end teen dating violence.

  • Since the 1980s, Mary Kay Inc. and members of its independent sales force have lobbied Congress and state legislatures on issues including insurance coverage of mammograms for women, the Violence Against Women Act and most recently, teen dating violence awareness and prevention.

  • Mary Kay Inc. and The Mary Kay FoundationSM partnered with The Arbor Day Foundation to construct Nature Explore Classrooms at domestic shelters across the country – the first of their kind to be built at women's shelters. The classrooms are outdoor learning spaces designed to allow the powers of nature to help children learn, play and heal from abuse.
