Stopping Violence Before it Starts
Break the Cycle believes everybody has the right to safe and healthy relationships. Break the Cycle engages, educates and empowers youth to end domestic violence. Through programs that offer preventive education, encourage youth activism and foster systemic change, Break the Cycle is helping to create a safer future for all of us.
|
In the Classroom
Break the Cycle’s preventive education program teaches teens about domestic violence, healthy relationships and the law. Now, with generous support from Mary Kay’s Beauty that Counts™ campaign, Break the Cycle will pilot the Ending Violence DVD, which uses technology to enable thousands more young people to benefit from Break the Cycle’s lifesaving resources and information.

On the Internet
Break the Cycle offers direct help to teens through thesafespace.org — the most comprehensive dating violence resource online. This Web-based community provides a meeting place and complete resource for teens seeking information and support. Youth can ask confidential and specific questions online. Break the Cycle guides them through the legal system and helps them find appropriate support in their local communities.
|
In the Community
Break the Cycle’s youth activism program engages and trains young people to raise awareness about dating violence among their peers. Break the Cycle supports participants as they develop and implement youth-led and youth-driven projects. Break the Cycle is expanding the reach of our youth activism program by providing the tips and tools teens need to take action in their local communities. Through Web-based tool kits, youth nationwide can access resources previously only available through our in-person programs.

Across the Nation
Break the Cycle’s work helps to ensure young people are protected in every state in the country. This year, Break the Cycle published the first-ever State-by-State Report Card, ranking each state according to the legal protection afforded minors in abusive relationships. The Safe Schools Project offers model policies and procedures for middle and high schools to better respond to dating violence and sexual assault on campus. Break the Cycle’s Teen Center trains adults nationwide, including parents, teachers, attorneys, law enforcement and other youth-service professionals, to respond to young people with sensitivity.
