Mary Kay Volunteers More Than 430,000 Hours of Community Service Worldwide in Honor of International Women’s Day
First Mary Kay Global Month of Service Results in Service Valued at Nearly $9 Million
Dallas, March 9, 2011 – Thousands of “Mary Kay family members” in more than 35 countries helped their fellow neighbors by volunteering more than 430,510 hours of community service – or more than 49 years of service valued at nearly $9 million* – around the world in one month to celebrate the 100th anniversary of International Women’s Day, commemorated on March 8, 2011. Mary Kay employees, independent sales force members – as well as their family and friends – joined together to make a beautiful difference worldwide during the first Mary Kay Global Month of Service, Feb. 8-March 8, 2011.
From the young to the young at heart, and the indoors to the outdoors, Mary Kay’s service spanned the globe, including volunteers who:
- United States: Supported women and children at domestic violence shelters by sprucing up their centers, helping in one’s thrift store and making hygiene kits.
- Australia: Assisted citizens in disaster relief efforts due to the massive floods throughout the country in January.
- China: Taught children attending a rural school whose parents work in faraway cities.
- Mexico: Renovated buildings damaged by Hurricane Alex.
- Russia: Cleaned up a cancer center.
- Kazakhstan: Sang with the elderly at special karaoke events.
- Korea: Educated consumers on how to reduce carbon footprints and emissions at home.
