Before Mary Kay:

I moved here from Ecuador and was trying to learn English. I was working 14 hours a day at two jobs to pay my tuition.

My biggest concerns about starting my business:

I didn't know anybody. I didn't know anything about makeup or how to use it. My self-esteem was low, and I didn't have any money to invest.

How I felt at my first skin care party:

Terrified. Very nervous. My legs were shaking, but they were under the table so no one could see. I showed confidence though and sold everything that the guests tried!

How Mary Kay has changed me:

My self-esteem has improved 100 percent. I'm a happier person. I feel more feminine, and I'm more understanding and flexible. In general, I've turned 180 degrees.

What my business means to me:

As an independent businesswoman, I am in control. No one can give me a layoff notice.

When I think of the Company, I feel:

Proud. It gives me a lot of pride to be associated with Mary Kay Inc., not just because of the products, but also because of The Mary Kay Foundation that is helping to end domestic violence and fight cancers affecting women.

What I love most about my business:

The independence, both personal and financial. I love the fact that I can help others enjoy the same, especially Hispanic women who are looking for an opportunity to change their lives and the lives of their families.
