The Ultimate Eyes

Getting a beautiful eye look is simple when you know a few secrets that makeup artists use to create a gorgeous look. To get started, consider choosing eye shadows that work with your skin tone and eye color. Have fun playing with different colors to find your favorites.

The Keys to Color

Because the tone of your skin impacts a color after application, it is important to consider skin tone as much as eye color when choosing an eye shadow.

Ivory complexions work well with a range of neutrals, cool purples, reddish browns and blue-greens. For a more dramatic look, deep greens and taupes or warm purples can also be used.

Beige skin tones can be complemented with taupes, tawnies, greens, warm browns and deep plums. Charcoal gray, navy or deep purple are perfect for a striking evening look.

Bronze skin tones use deep or dark browns, deep greens such as forest green or charcoal grays. Dramatic looks are best created with dark purple, dark brown or charcoal.

When choosing eye shadows that bring out the color of your eyes, pick shades that either complement or contrast your irises.

Blue eyes radiate with warm browns, bronze, copper and other shades with similar orange undertones.

Application Tips

  • Highlighter The lightest shade used in an eye look, it enhances eye features such as the brow bone and inner corner of the eyes. Depending upon your eye shape, it can be applied over the entire lid or just along the brow bone and inner corner of eye.
  • Midtone The medium shade used in an eye look. For a professional look, this shade is usually neutral. It can be applied over the entire eye lid or above the crease for definition.
  • Accent The darkest shade used in an eye look, it adds a pop of color and depth to the eye. It’s often applied from the lashline and blended right above the crease.

How It Works

The Mary Kay® Mineral Eye Color contains high-quality minerals that are combined with other beneficial ingredients to get the right texture. Thanks to the combination of these minerals, the texture blends evenly with a silky touch, providing a smooth and lightweight feel with a natural and luminous finish.

Key Ingredients

  • Vitamins A, C and E help protect against wrinkle-causing free radicals.
  • Minerals, which occur naturally in the earth, have a lightweight texture and provide luminosity and radiance to the skin. All minerals found in nature undergo extensive purification and processing before they are incorporated into a cosmetic product.

It’s All About the Brushes

When it comes to applying makeup like a professional, using the right tools can make all the difference.

High-quality brushes can help you achieve a smooth, even look. Here are a few makeup artist tips and techniques you can use every day to get a polished look. It’s all a matter of using the right brush to get beautiful results.

An Eye Definer Brush has bristles that are tapered and rounded at the end to help shape and define eyes and blend color evenly. Sweep color softly across the eyelid and then lightly above the crease for a natural, yet polished look.

An Eye Crease Brush has long, thin, pointed bristles and is used with midtone and darker shades of eye color to add depth to eyes. Begin by placing the brush at the outer corner of the eye and then sweep inward following the natural crease. This brush can also be used to create a smoky eye look. Using the brush tip, sweep softly along lower lashes from the outer corner inward.

An Eyeliner Brush is used to line eyes and enhance sparse brows with eye color. This flat, angled, short-bristle brush makes it easy to apply a thin line of color along top and bottom lashes. It's also a great tool to use for blending your eyebrow pencil.

Use an Eyebrow Brush to brush brows in the opposite direction from which they grow to remove any excess foundation. Gently brush back, following their natural shape and direction, as a finishing touch to your makeup application.
