The Keys to Color

Because the tone of your skin impacts a color after application, it is important to consider skin tone as much as eye color when choosing an eye shadow.

Ivory complexions work well with a range of neutrals, cool purples, reddish browns and blue-greens. For a more dramatic look, deep greens and taupes or warm purples can also be used.

Beige skin tones can be complemented with taupes, tawnies, greens, warm browns and deep plums. Charcoal gray, navy or deep purple are perfect for a striking evening look.

Bronze skin tones use deep or dark browns, deep greens such as forest green or charcoal grays. Dramatic looks are best created with dark purple, dark brown or charcoal.

Mary Kay® Cream Eye Color is extremely versatile. The shades can be used together or worn alone. Also, the cream eye color acts as a primer when you layer Mary Kay® Mineral Eye Color on top of it. By doing so, you will get a more intense, long-wearing look. The key is to apply the cream eye color first.

Eye Looks to Try

  • Glacier Gray and Iced Cocoa are great smoky shades for evening. Apply two layers of either shade with a couple of coats of mascara for an evening look that's still soft.
  • Apricot Twist looks great in the inner corner of the eye to get what I call the "disco lights" shimmer that makes eyes look beautiful and radiant.
  • Apply any shade of Mary Kay® Cream Eye Color, then layer it with a Mary Kay® Mineral Eye Color in a similar shade. Glacier Gray cream eye color with Granite mineral eye color on top is gorgeous.

Application Tips

  • If applying with fingertip, use short dabs or light strokes.
  • If applying with Cream Eye Color/Concealer Brush, dip brush in cream eye color and apply shade using short, sweeping brush strokes.

Essential Tools

It's best to apply Mary Kay® Cream Eye Color with the Mary Kay® Cream Eye Color/Concealer Brush. The specially designed, tapered brush blends cream products more evenly and smoothly than other application techniques.

Concealer Brush

To use the brush, dip it in the cream eye color and use a back-and-forth motion to pick up the product. Then apply it by smoothing the brush over the eyelid. You can apply color on just the lid for intensity. Or apply it from the lid all the way to the brow bone for a sheer-wash look. A little will go a long way, and you can mix colors with the brush. It is recommended to clean your personal brushes two to three times per week.

For hygienic reasons, it is recommended to dedicate one brush for use with concealer and one brush for use with cream eye color.
