Mary Kay Does Not Support Animal Testing

Mary Kay does not conduct animal testing on our products or ingredients. Nevertheless, there are still some governments that conduct animal testing before they will allow certain products to be sold in their country. Mary Kay is committed to the elimination of animal testing and is a strong advocate of utilizing alternative methods to substantiate the safety of our ingredients and products. For almost three decades, we have been a global leader in helping to develop alternative testing methods to ensure product safety, and we will not rest until we convince all governments that alternative methods are a better way to ensure cosmetic product safety. Our commitment continues in partnership with global regulatory agencies that manage cosmetic safety, with animal advocacy groups and with leading animal alternative researchers. You can rest assured that none of the products you purchase in the United States have been tested on animals.

In 1995, Mary Kay Inc. became the first cosmetics manufacturer to be awarded the Star Work Site Designation in OSHA’s Voluntary Protection Program (VPP) for its excellent safety record, safety programs and employee involvement. In 1998, 2003 and 2008, Mary Kay Inc. was again recognized for its exemplary safety program and awarded recertification as a Star Work Site.

In the United States, Mary Kay Inc. is a Food and Drug Association (FDA) registered drug manufacturing operation. This allows the Company to manufacture and distribute certain products classified as over-the-counter drugs, such as sunscreens and acne treatment products. The research team keeps abreast of each country’s various government regulatory agencies to ensure that products comply with regulatory restrictions and guidelines.

In 2005, Mary Kay Inc. gave a $1 million endowment to support dermatology research at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas to help stimulate groundbreaking research and help further advancements in the field of dermatology.

All Mary Kay® sunscreen products carry the prestigious Seal of Recommendation from the Skin Cancer Foundation. This means these products have met stringent criteria for safety and effectiveness.

Mary Kay has been granted the Personal Care Products Council (PCPC) Consumer Commitment Code. This code goes beyond the requirements of the law and highlights the proactive and responsible approach to product safety supported by cosmetic companies.


Dermatologists and other medical experts play a vital role in product development. Mary Kay Inc. has developed alliances around the world with leading dermatologists and ophthalmologists in academic medicine and private practice, and these specialists serve as key advisers to our research scientists. As a sign of Mary Kay Inc.'s strong commitment to these relationships, the Company has funded an endowed Chair of Dermatology at one of the most respected medical research institutions, the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center.
